About Our Organization

ABOUT TDA

The Tigrai Development Association (TDA) is a member-based, non-for-profit non-governmental organization established in August 1989 in Washington DC. It moved its headquarter to Mekelle, Tigrai in May 1991 and was registered as rightful association in accordance with article 404 of the Ethiopian Civil Code and other relevant proclamations.

TDA has been registered and licensed by FDRE Ministry of Justice, Charities and Societies Agency as resident charity in accordance with the Charities and Societies Proclamation No. 621/2009 article 111(2) with registration number 0462. It is a tax exempted community-based development organization working at grassroots level to realize its objectives. Currently, it has over 1.3 million members ranging from students, civil servants, urban and rural community to business community.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

As a membership-based organization, TDA organizes annual conferences and general assembly to discuss on implementation of development programs and strategic and annual plans as well as set next strategic priorities. While board members, TDA staff, development partners and representatives of government offices participate in annual conferences, the general assembly that takes place every three years draws representatives of TDA members elected from all chapters and sub-chapters within Ethiopia and abroad.

The general assembly confers on plan implementations, sets strategic priorities vis-à-vis government and local priorities and elects board of directors and members of audit commission.
